Ability Action Australia

NDIS Therapeutic Supports Provider

Briar Johns-Teni

Position: Senior Occupational Therapist - Melbourne

Before joining Ability Action Australia, Briar was a community Occupational Therapist for three and a half years, working with NDIS participants with physical, neurological and psychosocial disabilities.

She has mainly worked with adults, including younger adults in their 20s, completing functional assessments, complex seating assessments and complex assistive technology applications.

Working with the NDIS and other funding bodies, Briar has experience assisting people with:

  • Minor and major home modifications
  • Assistive technology and aids
  • Activities of daily living training

She has prescribed a lot of equipment through the Statewide Equipment Program, which provides a subsidy towards the cost of assistive technology items and modifications. As a graduate supervisor for 18 months, Briar assisted colleagues and participants through the program’s maze of policies and procedures, and reviewed applications and reports.

She loves enabling people to participate in everyday tasks through interventions, strategies or scripted equipment, and supporting them to work towards achieving their goals.

Briar is thrilled to be working with NDIS participants across the western and north-western suburbs of Melbourne, ensuring they get the same opportunities as everyone else.
