During his studies, Nathir worked as a disability support worker, working with people living with various types of disability, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, severe chronic low back pain, and tumours.

At university during his practical placements, Nathir was involved in the following:

• Learning about the importance of tailored therapy services to support a person’s needs, wants and goals. For example, he created entertaining treatment exercises for a patient with a brain tumour, who was finding some of the basic exercises a little unexciting.
• Supporting patients in hospital settings including acute cardiorespiratory, neurological and general rehabilitation, inpatient and outpatient musculoskeletal
• Conducting common physiotherapy assessments, such as strength and balance testing and mobility testing, and more complicated testing for spasticity called the Tardieu Scale

Nathir’s knowledge of formulating a strong and individual assessment increased significantly as a result of his placement work.

He loves helping people reach their full potential by working together towards a participant’s goals in a way that is individualised, efficient and fun.
