Ability Action Australia
NDIS Therapeutic Supports Provider
James has previously worked as an Accessible Formatter and Student Support Officer for The University of Melbourne, working in Student Equity and Disability Services alongside adults of various ages.
During placement for his Masters of Social Work, James worked for Mind Australia in their research department on a youth strategy for youth mental health. This included talking to and interacting with young people who were engaged with Mind Australia’s services, including young people who had cognitive impairments and were neurodiverse.
After graduating, James worked with Forensic Intervention Services in their assessment team. He worked alongside clinicians delivering group treatment to participants as part of their court ordered rehabilitation. This gave James the opportunity to deliver behaviour change therapy sessions to a diverse range of individuals, some with high impacting personality disorders and trauma.
James has a strong sense of social justice and believes all people deserve to be included in the community and given the opportunity to thrive, reach their goals, and live their best lives. He believes that people with disability have so much to offer the community at large, including alternative perspectives that can challenge established systems and culture. He enjoys seeing the positive impact his work can have on the wellbeing of individuals with a disability, supporting them with their goals and aspirations.
