Matheson Young

Position: Behaviour Support Practitioner - Queensland

Matheson has many years of experience in the disability support and mental health sectors. Before working in a positive behaviour support role, he held management positions for disability support and mental health providers for 5 years, and for the 4 years preceding that he worked directly in a support capacity.

Throughout his career, Matheson has worked with clients across all ages, but feels most passionate about working with adults. He has supported individuals living with ASD, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, intellectual disability, and chronic pain. His experience also spans supporting those living with a range of psychosocial conditions.

In his role as a behaviour support practitioner with Ability Action Australia, Matheson can utilise a range of support strategies including:

  • Reinforcing positive behaviours
  • Monitoring client progress, making adjustments as required
  • Developing and managing individualised behaviour support plans

Matheson loves supporting people to develop their full potential and work towards their goals. “I’m passionate about breaking the stigma around people with a disability or psychosocial conditions, so that they are assisted in engaging with their community without concern or prejudice.”

Matheson is looking forward to supporting NDIS participants in Gympie and surrounds.
