Matthew, Behaviour Support Practitioner

Matthew Dobson

Position: Behaviour Support Practitioner - Hobart

Matthew is a Behaviour Support Practitioner who loves advocating for participants who have been left behind. He has demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children and youth, and he is passionate about providing effective support to those who need it most.

Previously, Matthew worked as a Child and Family Practitioner, where he worked with children in foster care and their foster families. He supported children who had experienced trauma and varying disability and was responsible providing mentoring, behaviour support, incident support, emotional support and foster care training.

Matthew has also worked as a Youth Worker, supporting clientele with on-going trauma and learning difficulties, whilst another role saw him working as a Child Safety Officer, where he was responsible for ensuring the safety of children in care and working with their carers to meet their needs and goals.

In his current role with Ability Action Australia, Matthew can support participants in a number of ways, including:

  • Improving communication and social skills
  • Making changes to the home environment
  • Providing safe methods of response to unsafe behaviours

“I love helping people who are sometimes left behind by their community by listening to their story and helping them find their voice,” he says.

Matthew is excited to be supporting NDIS participants across Hobart.
