Ability Action Australia

NDIS Therapeutic Supports Provider

Ryan, Team Leader and Occupational Therapist

Ryan J. Wallace

Position: Team Leader and Occupational Therapist - Melbourne

A Senior Occupational Therapist and Team Leader with Ability Action Australia, Ryan has worked in the mental health field for the past eight years and feels passionate about highlighting the conversation around the importance of mental health.

Having worked in a variety of public mental health settings, Ryan has a thorough understanding of the way services, including the NDIS, can support individuals with a mental health condition. He works with adults with an array of mental health conditions and understands that each person has a different experience of their diagnosis.

Ryan’s experience includes time spent working in Canada supporting individuals with mental health and drug and alcohol challenges. He uses a motivational interviewing approach to better understand an individual’s perspective and believes strongly in the idea of ‘starting where you are’ in the work he does.

As an Occupational Therapist, Ryan supports participants by:

  • Carrying out a variety of functional and sensory assessments
  • Exploring strategies that can improve mental health
  • Goal setting and developing habits to achieve personal goals

As a Team Leader, Ryan supports his team to provide individualised and meaningful changes to the clients they support.

“I want individuals to be able to write their own story and develop a meaningful narrative for their life,” he says.

Ryan is excited to be supporting NDIS participants across north-east Melbourne.
